Since the teams first season in 2013-14, the Beast have strived to differentiate themselves from the crowded GTA entertainment market. Over the last five seasons, one way the team has consistently done this is through the use of Theme Games.
In years past, the Beast have hosted some memorable theme games, including Star Wars Day complete with Darth Vader and Storm Troopers, Country Western Night that featured a mechanical bull, and even Jersey Toss Night which came following a string of jerseys tossed on the ice in protest at the Maple Leafs games.
In an effort to continuously try new things, this year the Beast hosted it’s first ever Marvel Day. The ECHL, through a partnership with Marvel Studios, became the only North American professional league with the rights to use the comic book giant’s characters and intellectual property.
Guests were welcomed to the Powerade Centre by a 15 foot Iron Man statue, constructed by a local Brampton resident.
The theme was further brought to life with a visit from Iron Man himself!
The theme extended to the ice with the Beast wearing custom Iron Man jerseys while the visiting Reading Royals donned the Incredible Hulk jerseys.
On the ice, with the momentum thoroughly on the side of Brampton, Matt Petgrave rushed down the sideboards and found the trailing Henry in the slot. The big defenseman picked his spot perfectly and gave the Beast their first lead of the game at 13:05 of the third. The Beast would hang on from there and secure their fifth consecutive victory.
The Force will be strong with the Beast’s next theme game as the team hosts Star Wars Day on December 3, 2017 at the Powerade Centre.
