As Cosmos Sports looks toward the new-year with great anticipation, we would like to take the opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed.  2014 saw Cosmos continue to solidify its influence in the sports marketing industry by taking on new opportunities, as well as strengthening previously established business relationships.

This past year was a busy and exciting for one of Cosmos Sports’ biggest clients, the Toronto Rush Ultimate Frisbee Team.  Cosmos continued to oversee ticket sales, corporate partnerships, marketing, and game day operations for the team.  The Rush went into their second season both undefeated and with a championship title and it was their solid play in the 2014 season would make them veritable contenders at Championship Weekend III.  The AUDL’s Championship Weekend was hosted by the Rush at Toronto’s Varsity Stadium.  This weekend was attended by approximately 3,000 people and saw teams come all the way from New York, Wisconsin, and California to compete.  Although the Rush lost in a heartbreaking final, the weekend was a resounding success.  In September, it was announced that Cosmos and the Rush would be extending their partnership for another 2 years, and both are now eagerly looking forward to continued success in the 2015 season.

2014 marked a year of change for Cosmos’ client, the Brampton Beast Hockey Club.  Prior to the beginning of the 2014/2015 season, it was announced that the CHL and ECHL would merge, and that the Beast would now play as part of the newly expanded East Coast Hockey League.  As the season continues to develop, Cosmos and the Beast will continue their efforts to solidify the team’s brand within the Brampton market and Cosmos will endeavor to provide management assistance in several areas of the business including: community relations, ticket sales, sponsorship, and marketing.

On the arts and entertainment side, Cosmos continued to reinforce its strong partnerships with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and Theatre Aquarius.  By assisting with ticket sales throughout the summer and into the beginning of their respective seasons, both clients saw a tremendous number of renewals as well as new ticket buyers for their 2014-2015 seasons.

Several other projects were put in motion throughout the year at Cosmos.  One of the largest was the development of a partnership between Cosmos and the Canadian Lacrosse League.  Cosmos and C-Lax will be working together to develop marketing strategies that will prove beneficial for the league’s five teams, as well as its athletes.

Soccer was another large part of the business in 2014 due to Cosmos’ involvement with both the Canadian National men and women’s teams.  Cosmos President Cary Kaplan provided training for ticket sales staff across Canada in preparation for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.  And, Cosmos Staff was called upon by Canada Soccer to assist with ticket sales for an international friendly between Canada and Jamaica’s men’s teams, which took place in Toronto on September 9th.

It should also be noted that throughout the year, Cosmos had a tremendous amount of success with university athletics, as evidenced with the company’s involvement in the athletics programs of Carleton University, NAIT, and the University of Alberta.

As 2014 wraps up, two ongoing projects will take Cosmos into the new-year.  The first of which, is a partnership with Ultimate Fitness Gyms, wherein Cosmos will market the idea of workplace wellness programs to businesses in the Ottawa Valley.  The second, a several month project with the Pan-Am Junior Athletics Championships, will see Cosmos’ involvement in several different areas of the event including ticket sales, training and development, and the creation/execution of marketing strategies for the event.

Cosmos Sports would like to express its gratitude for the strong efforts of each team, league and organization it has worked with in the past year; and it is our hope that these existing partnerships can continue to be strengthened in the future.  Thanks also goes out to the dedicated team at Cosmos, who has put in a tremendous amount of work over the past 12 months and has helped to make 2014 a winning year.
