ULTIMATE WEEKEND FOR COSMOS SPORTS
August 1, 2014 - On July 26 and 27, Cosmos Sports hosted the AUDL Championship Weekend III at Varsity Stadium in the heart of downtown Toronto. Cosmos is responsible for marketing, sponsorship, ticket sales, and game day operations for the AUDL’s winningest team, the Toronto Rush, who own a 33-2 record all-time and a champion trophy. The success of the young franchise extended off the field as well, as the Rush set a single game attendance record with nearly 2,400 while averaging 1,000 each game for their inaugural season.
As a result of the off-field and on-field successes in their first two seasons, the AUDL appointed Cosmos to plan and organize their third annual Championship Weekend. Cosmos was responsible for seeking corporate partners, selling individual tickets and group packages, and providing game day staff for the weekend event.
The 2014 AUDL Championship Weekend had approximately 3,000 in attendance. Many Rush fans came out to cheer on the home team, while die-hard supporters of the other 3 teams, the Madison Radicals, the New York Empire, and the San Jose Spiders, travelled to Toronto to root for their teams. The Championship Weekend also accommodated the owners from the other AUDL franchises in an exclusive VIP room.
Championship Weekend III included some memorable highlights including: a beer garden at maximum capacity, exciting halftime shows, Rush players being drenched from water balloons in a dunk tank, YouTube sensation and Chicago Wildfire player, trick shot specialist Brodie Smith hosting a disc throwing clinic, and finally the San Jose Spiders upsetting the Toronto Rush in front of their home crowd, by a score of 28-18 to win the largest share of the $25,000 player prize pool.
