Friday, May 27th, 2011 On Wednesday night, the Kingston Voyageurs officially changed ownership as Gregg Rosen sold the 38-year-old franchise to a group of four local individuals who formed Community Sports Entertainment Limited. The new owners are Dr. Dijana Oliver, Rob Zarichny, Al Paterson, and Colin Birkas. After five years of ownership, Gregg Rosen retained the services of Cosmos Sports for assistance in selling the team. With the idea of placing an article in the local newspaper, Cosmos Sports was able to assist with finding an owner and finalizing the deal.
Cary Kaplan, president of Cosmos Sports, was quoted as saying that “we were very proud to have the opportunity to work with Mr. Rosen, and to play a small role in keeping the Kingston Voyageurs in Kingston.”.
Gregg Rosen, who will stay on with the team as an advisor and title sponsor released the following statement following the sale:.
"Today is a wonderful day for the Voyageurs hockey organization. It's a very emotional day for myself and my family, but at the same time, I'm thrilled and excited about the new ownership and I think Kingston has a lot to be proud of and I hope that the community realizes that sometimes change is good and I'm excited about it. It was time for me to make a change and I think I was lucky and the community was lucky that when the article went in the paper, someone came forward. I sure hope everyone in this community supports this team and there's absolutely no reason not to.".
With regards to the direction of the team, the new ownership group plans to continue with Gregg Rosen’s foundation, while featuring more local, homegrown talent on the ice.
