Friday, August 30, 2013: – Carleton University, Canada’s basketball dynasty, having won an unprecedented nine Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships, are joining forces with Cosmos Sports. Cosmos Sports will be operating the ticket sales department on behalf of Carleton Ravens Athletic department for the upcoming season as well as advising them on their overall marketing, branding, ticket sales and data collection strategies. A formidable business partnership that may be common for the sporting giants of the NCAA, however it is rarely, if ever, seen north of the border.
The 2013-14 season for Carleton Ravens Athletics will be an exceptionally exciting season for Cosmos to commence a partnership. The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team looks to increase their record for most CIS championships to an astonishing ten, which will be their fourth in a row and tenth in twelve years. This Canadian powerhouse shows no signs of slowing down. Top players from across the country choose Carleton over any other university in the country. This is exemplified by the talented Scrubb brothers. Thomas and Philip led the Ravens to their record breaking ninth CIS championships with a decisive thrashing of Lakehead Thunderwolves 92-42. Thomas was named the most valuable player of the tournament and has received the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) defensive player of the year. Younger brother Philip has also received accolades for his stellar play, being named the CIS rookie of the year and was named the OUA basketball player of the year for the two consecutive seasons since.
Although Carleton is normally associated with basketball, they look to add to their sporting prowess by fielding a football team for the first time in 15 years. Ravens home games will be played at Keith Harris Stadium which has undergone renovations to prepare for the upcoming season. New bleacher seating has been added, which will increase the seating capacity to 3000 fans on top of the student friendly, “perch” seating that surrounds the field. Along with the new bleachers, Carleton has added brand new dressing rooms and plan to construct a new scoreboard and parking garage to contribute to the gameday experience.
The Carleton Ravens host the Waterloo Warriors, September 7, on what will be memorable milestone for the university. With a new CIS & CFL team, football is definitely back in Ottawa. Cosmos sports is ecstatic to be a part of what hopes to be an incredible season for Carleton University, with many more milestones to come.
