Friday, November 30, 2012: There is a belief around North America that Canadians love hockey. In most cases, this theory holds true as hockey is entrenched in Canadian culture. The fact is many people north of the border do in fact eat, sleep, and breathe hockey..
Although Canadians know hockey on the ice, it is also apparent that Canada, and more specifically Cosmos Sports, has an intimate understanding of the business side of the hockey industry as well..
Cosmos Sports is excited to announce a partnership with the Quad City Mallards of the Central Hockey League (CHL). The Mallards are a minor professional hockey team located in Moline, Illinois. Cosmos will be assisting the Mallards with strategic consulting, revenue generation training, creative marketing, and will be heavily involved in managing the Mallards’ ticket sales campaign and strategy. President Cary Kaplan and Director of Sales & Marketing, Mike Miele, will be heading down to Moline next week for three days to explore current operations and establish the start a five month relationship with the Mallards..
Cosmos has had the pleasure of working with the CHL for many years on a variety of different projects, including many of the leagues individual teams such as the Wichita Thunder and Allen Americans.
The CHL, which acts as the Double-A affiliate to several NHL teams is currently in its 21st season in operation. In just the past two years the league has had 69 call-ups to the American Hockey League and just last year, former CHL players Brian Foster (Florida Panthers), Jordie Benn (Dallas Stars) and Ryan Garbutt (Dallas Stars) made their National Hockey League debuts joining the likes of David Schlemko (Phoenix Coyotes), Keith Aucoin (Washington Capitals), Andrew Desjardins (San Jose Sharks), Joel Martin (New York Islanders) and many others as former CHL players that have made it to the NHL..
The league has also developed non-hockey personnel for higher leagues with former CHL President Brad Treliving currently serving as the Vice-President of Hockey Operations/Assistant General Manager of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes..
Bob Hoffman, Director of Operations with the Central Hockey League, expressed his enthusiasm towards the new partnership:.
“We are looking forward to Cosmos Sports helping out the Mallards sales efforts this season. Cary and his crew have a proven track record of success and we are thrilled to have them involved with our young staff”..
We are confident that Cosmos Sports can help bring similar success and sustainability to the current Quad City franchise that secured the original Mallards team a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame..
