Friday, January 11, 2013: It's customary this time of year, to take some time to reflect on the year that was. In a year that may have been highlighted by the fact that we're all still here (despite some ancient predictions), 2012 saw Cosmos continue to grow its influence in certain areas, but also enter some new.

Revenue Generation Training has been a staple of Cosmos' business for several years, and 2012 saw President Cary Kaplan and his staff achieve some key milestones. Early in the year, the hockey world continued to look to Cosmos Sports for guidance, as the company was hired to work with both the Southern Professional Hockey League and the United States Hockey League (USHL). Following work with the leagues as a whole, Cosmos focused efforts with many of the individual teams including the Augusta Riverhawks (SPHL), and six teams from the USHL. Prior to the highly publicized work stoppage Cosmos headed to Arizona, coaching the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) new ticket sales staff on how to sell hockey in the desert. Rounding out the year, Cosmos was extremely pleased to work with one of the world's largest sport organizations, AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group), specifically the Home Depot Center, home of the MLS Champion LA Galaxy. Branching from the Revenue Generation Training department, Cosmos significantly expanded its consulting division, which now boasts clients such as the Chicago Bandits and the Quad City Mallards (CHL). With a presence that continues into 2013, the partnerships are already showing promising results. 

Never shying away from something new, Cosmos partnered with GoSportNet. Through marketing and branding initiatives provided by Cosmos Sports, GoSportNet has increased its reach both geographically and in terms of the diversity of its member sports leagues. There will be even more to offer in 2013 with larger tournament registrations. Next year Toronto will be welcoming its newest professional sports team, the Toronto Rush. A strong ownership group with a focus on sales and marketing will back the Rush to a strong inaugural season.

Staying nationally, this year four of Canada's National Sport Governing bodies added Cosmos' professionalism to their teams. Tennis Canada and Golf Canada both partnered on strategic consulting initiatives focused around their marquee events. Increased broadcasting by Cricket Canada has been seen following a detailed screening process that saw the hiring of a highly qualified new CEO. Cosmos also advanced the ticket campaign for Canada Soccer 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers held at BMO Field. 

Deeply engrained in the roots of the company is ticket sales, and 2012 was an exciting year for the department to say the least. Checking yet another sport off the list, the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton was a new and exciting opportunity. Coming full circle, this year Cosmos once again partnered with Rogers and the Buffalo Bills to bring Canada its perennial taste of NFL Football; a partnership that saw the highest paid attendance for any game of the Bills Toronto Series to date. The department continued to expand in to entertainment with properties Theatre Aquarius, Hamilton Philharmonics Orchestra and Harold Green Jewish Theatre. 

Cosmos' retail initiative with Costco Wholesale generated $450,000 in new business for a variety of sport teams and destinations, including Hockley Valley Golf and Ski resort and London's Echo Valley Golf Club. Fan bases continued to grow using this unique marketing strategy for teams in the NHL and CFL, including the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues and the 2012 Grey Cup Champion, Toronto Argonauts. 

For the second straight year, an Ontario Junior Hockey League team has successfully changed hands with help from Cosmos Sports. Knowing and understanding value and market viability, Cosmos aided Ted Nishi with the sale of the community beloved Georgetown Raiders (OJHL) by finding new dedicated ownership that could continue the team's strong tradition. Cosmos also completed a feasibility study on Canada's ability to sustain a basketball league detailing sponsorship, advertising, fans and funding. 

Cosmos Sports is grateful for the strong efforts of each team, league and organization it has worked with in 2012 and is looking forward to continuing these loyal partnerships in 2013 while pursuing new exciting business opportunities.
