Commitment to Success Keeps the USHL & Cosmos Connected
Friday, July 20th 2012: You know you are doing something right when you have trained every single major hockey league in North America; now including six teams from the United States Hockey League (USHL). This is the case for President of Cosmos Sports, Cary Kaplan, who keeps tacking on the kilometres (or miles for our U.S. readers), as he took a trip to Iowa this past week to work closely with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Waterloo Black Hawks, and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on all things revenue generation.
The United States Hockey League is the top junior ice hockey league in the United States. The league has 16 member teams located in the Midwestern United States, consisting of players who are 20 years of age and younger.
The few intense days spent in Iowa were focused on many key items including: strategic sales and marketing techniques, fan centric ticket packaging, synergy between all departments, selling in a tough economy and much more.
The longstanding relationship between the USHL and Cosmos Sports has featured Revenue Generation Coaching sessions with the Omaha Lancers, Fargo Force, and the Lincoln Stars to go along with the three teams that were trained this week in Iowa. The feedback from each and every session has been extremely positive. Following the day in Fargo, Jon Kram, General Manager for the Force said “There has been a buzz around the office since the training…This is a must for all sports teams”. The sentiment was shared by Ben Robert, President of the Omaha Lancers who said “Without this session, I am afraid that we would have taken a wrong turn as an organization”.
Of course with any investment come the questions of ROI and ROO. Both Jim Pflug, President of the Lincoln Stars and Jeff Jauch, President/CEO of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders felt each was addressed. “We expect to be reaping the benefits of (Cosmos Sports’) counsel for years to come. Definitely a worthwhile investment” said Mr. Pflug. Mr. Jauch certainly agreed, saying “It was money well spent. (Cary) did a great job”.
Cosmos’ impact on the USHL has not solely been on an individual team basis; Cary also made a presentation at the league's annual Sales and Marketing meeting in February, which was attended by high level executives from all 16 member teams including league Vice President of Business Operations, Joe Macdonell and Commissioner of the USHL, Skip Prince.
On a personal note, Iowa marks the 39th U.S. state that Cosmos Sports President Cary Kaplan has visited to conduct Revenue Generation Training sessions, having now worked with 400+ teams. Stay tuned for State #40.
